Reviews & Maps / Automated review requests
Automated Google review requests for contractors
Short answer
Automated Google review requests start when a job is marked done in your job software. The customer gets a quick check-in text, then a review request with a one-tap link and a photo with their name on it. One reminder goes out if they don’t review. Every customer is asked, every time, and you never have to remember.

How it works
- Job closes in Jobber, Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan, AccuLynx, JobNimbus or QuickBooks.
- Check-in text: “How did everything go today?” If something’s wrong, you hear about it first.
- Review request: a short text with their first name, a personalized photo and your direct Google review link.
- One reminder three days later, only if they haven’t reviewed.
- Monthly report: requests sent, reviews earned and your rating.
Why it works better than asking in person
- Customers say yes on the driveway and forget by dinner. A text with a one-tap link turns that yes into a review.
- Same-day timing catches them while the result is fresh.
- A photo with their name looks personal, not like spam, so more people tap it.
- It never gets skipped on a busy week.
Asking every customer adds up. In our October 18, 2026 check of Google’s top 3 non-paid Map Pack listings, the median listing had 170 reviews for “roofer near me” (30 US cities), 251 for “ac repair near me” (30 cities) and 298 for “plumber near me” (24 cities). See the Google review benchmarks and how many Google reviews you need.
Why same day, not a week later
Advice online often says to wait 5–30 days. That fits online stores, where the customer hasn’t used the product yet.
Your customer usually sees the result the day the crew leaves. The cleanup, the crew and the price are still fresh. A week later, your text is one more message to ignore.
Some work takes longer to show results. The playbooks for painters, pest control companies and pool service companies say when to ask for those jobs.
Example request
Hi Maria, thanks for having us out today! If you have a minute, a quick Google review helps other homeowners find us: [link] – Jake, Summit Roofing

Is it allowed by Google?
Yes. Google allows businesses to ask customers for reviews. What it doesn’t allow is asking only happy customers, or offering anything in exchange. We ask everyone the same way and never offer incentives. More in our guide to getting more Google reviews.
Choosing review request software? Check these first
Whether you buy review request software or hire it out, check for these.
- It starts on its own when a job is marked done in your job software. A list you have to upload by hand is easy to skip on a busy week.
- It sends a text, with email as a backup.
- The link opens your Google review box directly, with no rating page in between.
- It sends one reminder, and stops once someone reviews or replies STOP.
- Every text names your company.
- It shows you requests sent, reviews earned and your rating every month.
- Replies reach you, so an unhappy customer hears back fast.
A page that asks for a star rating first and sends only the happy customers to Google is review gating. Google’s Maps content policy doesn’t allow it. Here’s why we never use review gating, and what review software and done-for-you services cost.
Which plan includes it?
Included in every plan, starting with Reviews at $97/mo. Every plan starts with a free 2-week trial, no setup fee, month to month. Compare plans.
Review requests by trade
When to ask, and which job software to connect, is different in every trade. See the playbook for roofers, HVAC companies, plumbers, electricians, landscapers, painters, garage door companies, pest control companies, pool service companies, concrete contractors and window and door companies. Review requests are one part of our Google review management for contractors.
Questions about automated review requests
What is an automated review request?
A text that goes out on its own when a job is marked done in your job software, asking the customer for a Google review with a one-tap link. Nobody on your team has to remember.
When is the best time to send a review request?
The same day the job is finished, while the result is fresh. A check-in text first, then the request, then one reminder about three days later if they haven’t reviewed.
Is a text or an email better for review requests?
Text. Most people read a text within minutes, and a one-tap link on their phone is the shortest path to the review box. Email works as a backup for customers without a mobile number.
Which job software does it work with?
Jobber, Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan, AccuLynx, JobNimbus and QuickBooks. No job software? A customer list works.
Do customers need to agree to get texts?
We only text customers who gave you their number for the job. Every text names your company, and anyone who replies STOP is removed right away.
How do you politely ask for a review?
Thank them by name for the job, ask in one short sentence, and include your direct Google review link so it takes one tap. Send one reminder if they don’t review, then stop.
Is review gating illegal?
Google’s review policy bans it, and reviews collected that way can be removed. In the US, the FTC’s guide for businesses also says not to ask for reviews only from customers you expect to be happy. Send every customer the same request.
What is the best review management software?
There’s no single best one. For a contractor, the right tool starts on its own from your job software, texts a direct Google link and asks every customer, not just the happy ones. If you’d rather not run software, a done-for-you service does the same work.
Is there a free review app?
Partly. Your Google review link and QR code are free, and you can text the link yourself after each job. Some job software has review requests built in or as a paid add-on. Dedicated tools add the automatic trigger, the reminder and the report.
Rather have it done for you?
Try it free for two weeks: we text your past customers and connect your job software. 25 reviews, or we keep working free until you get them. Applies at 25+ jobs a month.
